چکیده

The intravenous infusion of the octapeptide of cholecystokinin inhibited the response of the lower oesophageal sphincter to graded doses of pentagastrin in normal men. The possibility that the effects of these peptides on the lower oesophageal sphincter are only pharmacological and not physiological is discussed.

The interaction of glucagon and pentagastrin on the lower oesophageal sphincter in man and dog.

The effect of glucagon on the pressure inside the lower oesophageal sphincter in conscious human subjects and anaesthetized dogs was investigated using the continuous withdrawal method. Glucagon causes a decrease in sphincteric resting pressure in both man and dog and antagonizes the pentagastrin-induced pressure increase of the lower oesophageal sphincter. In experiments on isolated muscle str...

Effect of cimetidine on the human lower oesophageal sphincter.

Lower oesophageal sphincter pressures in healthy volunteers were measured by a rapid pull-through technique during intravenous infusion of the histamine H2-receptor antagonist, cimetidine. No consistent effects on sphincter pressure were observed which are liable to be of clinical importance. Serum gastrin concentrations during cimetidine infusion were measured by radioimmunoassay and showed no...

Lower oesophageal sphincter response to pentagastrin in chagasic patients with megaoesophagus and megacolon.

Intraluminal manometric studies were performed in 14 chagasic patients with megaoesophagus, 10 chagasic patients with megacolon, and 15 control subjects. Basal lower oesophageal sphincter pressure was 20.27+/-1.16 mmHg (mean+/-SEM) in controls as compared wtih 15.16+/-1.53 mmHg in chagasics with megaoesophagus and 14.38+/-1.50 mmHg in chagasics with megacolon. Dose-response studies to intraveno...

Lower oesophageal sphincter response to gastrin--pharmacological or physiological?

The response of the lower oesophageal sphincter (LOS) to intragastric instillation of protein was assessed in 10 healthy volunteers. Sphincter pressures were measured by a rapid pull-through technique and serum gastrin concentrations during each test were determined by radioimmunoassay. Despite stimulation of gastrin release by protein instillation, no significant change in LOS pressure was obs...

Lower oesophageal sphincter response to intravenous infusions of pentagastrin in normal subjects, antrectomised and achalasic patients.

Lower oesophageal sphincter response to infusion of graded doses (0.003--0.050 microgram kg-1min-1) of pentagastrin was evaluated in four antrectomised patients as well as in six healthy subjects and seven achalasic patients in whom inhibition of antral gastrin release was maintained by continuous acidification (HC1 0.1 N) and aspiration of gastric antrum. In normal subjects and in antrectomise...
